Knicks Seemingly Aiming To Move Up In Draft

The Knicks haven’t made many notable moves lately but that could change here soon. Per Ian Begley on SNY.tv, they very well may be looking to move up in the NBA Draft.Tom Thibodeau

As of now, the Knicks hold the No. 11 overall pick in the first round, as well as a second-rounder (No. 42 overall).

Both the Trail Blazers (No. 7) and Pelicans (No. 8) are said to be open moving their own selections, as we relayed previously. The Kings (No. 4) could also explore trading their pick for immediate help, per reports.

“It’s unclear which teams ahead of the Knicks would consider trading their picks. But Sacramento (fourth pick) and Portland (seventh pick) are two teams who are expected explore the possibility of trading down in the lottery,” Begley wrote.

The Knicks finished 37-45 this past season, failing to make the playoffs after doing so in their first season under coach Tom Thibodeau. As Begley noted, they would like to add “a dynamic guard,” and it likely wouldn’t matter if it’s via trade, free agency or the draft.

While it’s all speculation at this point, the Knicks have already been linked to Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell and Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson. Both players, however, are expected to return to their current teams next season. Brunson is a little more iffy as a free agent.

No matter how you spin it, as Begley wrote, “the Knicks are at the beginning of a pivotal offseason under team president Leon Rose.”
