The Indiana Pacers are set to visit the New York Knicks to tip off the Knicks’ 2024-25 home season at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 25, sources told Hoops Wire.
The Knicks, of course, are coming off a loss to the Pacers in seven games in the Eastern Conference semifinals — so this will serve as a fairly quick rematch. The Pacers then advanced to the East finals, where they were swept by the eventual champion Boston Celtics.
Without a doubt, both teams enter the season with high expectations.
That’s particularly true of the Knicks, who traded for star forward Mikal Bridges, previously of the Brooklyn Nets.
Meanwhile, the Pacers reached a new deal with standout forward Pascal Siakam — who is entering his first full season with Indiana after arriving from the Toronto Raptors at about midseason.
Siakam averaged 21.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks in 41 games with Indiana while shooting 54.9% from the field, 38.6% from beyond the arc and 69.9% from the free-throw line.
Most people are predicting that a full Knicks squad, with good health, will finish above the Pacers in the Eastern Conference this season. But the Pacers have unquestionably proven that none of those predictions matter.
The NBA is releasing its full schedule on Thursday at 3 p.m. EST.
