Knicks Unwilling To Attach Picks To Julius Randle Trade Scenarios

The Knicks appear open to trading power forward Julius Randle, but not at any cost.Julius Randle

Per Fred Katz of The Athletic, the Knicks don’t want to attach draft picks to a potential Randle deal, as they far from view him as a salary dump.

New York is currently involved in talks to acquire Jazz star Donovan Mitchell, though it is not believed Randle’s name has been mentioned much in those conversations. “New York doesn’t currently see a need to simply dump Randle as bad salary,” RealGM relayed.

Randle, 27, had a career season in 2020-21, averaging 24.1 points and 10.2 rebounds, making an All-Star team for the first time.

Last year was a bit of a letdown for both Randle and the Knicks, who failed to make the playoffs. Still he has four years and  $106 million remaining on his contract, and for now, appears to be part of the Knicks’ future.

Meanwhile, the Knicks already landed rising guard Jalen Brunson in free agency this offseason and very well could still make a move for Mitchell. At this point, they seem to remain the frontrunners to do just that.

But trading Randle doesn’t seem to be a major part of the plans, especially if it will cost them future picks.
