Kristaps Porzingis may not be there long. But he’s already thinking about staying.
According to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole, early impressions suggest Porzingis is open to re-signing with the Warriors when he hits free agency this offseason.
Porzingis, 30, hasn’t even had a chance to share the floor with Stephen Curry yet. Curry remains sidelined. But the idea of it is already enough to catch his attention.
“He has changed the game,” Porzingis said of Curry. “To be on the same team… it’s pretty cool.”
The Warriors acquired Porzingis in the Jonathan Kuminga deal with the Hawks, and the early returns have been solid. He’s averaging 17.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in a limited sample.
There’s still a lot to sort out. Golden State is hovering around the play-in picture, and Porzingis’ long-term fit will depend on health, role and, of course, money.
But the early signal is there. He likes the setup. He likes the environment. Maybe most importantly, he likes the idea of playing alongside Curry.
Free agency is still a few months away. Still, this is how those conversations usually start.
