Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis was forced to exit Saturday’s 128-121 loss with a left eye injury and could potentially miss some time.
Davis suffered a corneal abrasion, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. His eye was swollen shut and his vision impaired following the game, added Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
More specifically, Davis got poked in the left eye by Warriors forward Trayce Jackson-Davis while driving for a layup with 2:47 to go in the first quarter. He kept playing for the next several minutes before his eye swelled shut. He then went to the locker room.
Davis will have the injury re-evaluated on Sunday, McMenamin noted. The Lakers play again Monday, at home vs. the Atlanta Hawks.
Davis played 12 minutes before suffering the injury, finishing with eight points and four rebounds. Given that the Lakers (36-32) are fighting for playoff positioning, the injury comes at a crucial time.
For the Lakers, it’s been one or two good games followed by one or two bad — and that’s with Davis. Without him, LeBron James has to carry even more of the load, as he did on Saturday, scoring 40 points in a losing cause.
The Lakers described Davis’ injury as an eye contusion.
