Lakers star power forward Anthony Davis apparently felt that former LA point guard Dennis Schroder couldn’t deliver.
More specifically, Davis was frustrated by the looks he got at the basket after receiving passes from Schroder, compared to those he received from ex-Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo, as relayed by Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.
The good news for Davis, then, is that Rondo has returned as a free agent, a signing that was announced Tuesday. And Schroder has moved on to the Celtics.
“Per an NBA source familiar with some of the Lakers’ struggles through the 2020-21 campaign, Davis felt some frustration that he wasn’t getting the kind of looks in the post with Dennis Schroder running the point compared to those he received with Rondo a year earlier,” Pincus wrote. “That may have contributed to the Lakers choosing not to re-sign Schroder …”
Of course, the main guard this season will be All-Star point man Russell Westbrook, acquired in a trade with the Wizards last month. But Rondo was a key reserve and leader during the 2020 championship run.
He is known as a player who understands how to do the little things it takes to win, as well as someone who realizes you have to keep your best teammates happy.
“Looking at this Lakers team and the roster, understanding where I am in my career, at the same time I think I can still bring a lot to the game,” Rondo told reporters. “But my main focus is, if we win, nothing else matters.”
