The Los Angeles Lakers have waived guard/forward Vincent Valerio-Bodon after recently signing him to an Exhibit 10 contract for training camp. The team announced the move in a press release.
Valerio-Bodon, 23, is 6-foot-9 and attended training camp with the Lakers last fall, but was waived before the start of the season. He then played for the South Bay Lakers of the G League, averaging 5.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 10 appearances.
Granted, it was a long shot that Valerio-Bodon would make the standard roster, given that the Lakers already have 15 players on standard contracts. They also have filled all three two-way spots.
Along with those players, the Lakers reportedly have signed Kylor Kelley, Quincy Olivari and Jordan Goodwin. They are also expected to sign Sean East.
Teams are allowed to carry 21 players on their camp rosters, and if all of these names are signed, the Lakers would be over the limit. So another cut is likely on the way before camp tips off during the first week of October. Or perhaps one of the aforementioned names does not get signed.
Either way, most of the names you see above will represent LA in the G League, at least to start the season. That is indeed the case at least for Valerio-Bodon and likely East as well.
The Lakers are one of just three teams that have not signed an outside free agent to a standard contract, joining the Cleveland Cavaliers and reigning champion Boston Celtics.
