Lakers, Celtics among teams linked to potential Giannis pursuit

If Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo ever hits the trade market, expect just about everyone to at least check in.

That includes the Lakers and Celtics, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Amick reported that a wide range of teams could express interest if the Bucks decide to explore a deal this offseason, mentioning franchises such as the Rockets, Spurs, Hawks and others. The Lakers and Celtics were also cited as teams that have come up in league circles.

That does not mean anything is imminent. Far from it.

For starters, Milwaukee has not indicated it plans to move Antetokounmpo. And even if it did, the process would be complicated, with multiple teams able to offer significant packages.

From a roster standpoint, both Los Angeles and Boston would face challenges.

The Lakers could theoretically pair Giannis with Luka Doncic, creating one of the league’s most intriguing duos. But putting together a competitive offer would likely require moving key pieces and future flexibility.

Boston presents a different puzzle. The Celtics are already built around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and any path to Giannis would almost certainly involve significant roster changes.

In other words, it is easier to connect the dots than to complete the deal.

Still, the mere idea of Antetokounmpo landing with one of the league’s marquee franchises is enough to get attention. If nothing else, it shows what would happen if a player of his caliber actually became available.

The line would be long. And the stakes would be massive.
