The Lakers could potentially use their 2027 and ’29 first-round picks to help the Jazz facilitate a trade of Donovan Mitchell to the Knicks, or perhaps another team, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Along with the picks, the Lakers would use the expiring contract of Russell Westbrook, Stein added. After obtaining Patrick Beverley in a trade with the Jazz last week, the Lakers appear more determined than ever to move Westbrook before the season.
Meanwhile, the Jazz are also said to be motivated to move Mitchell before training camp, with the Knicks being the reported frontrunners. The Cavaliers, Hornets and Wizards are also among the teams that have supposedly spoken to the Jazz, though as we relayed, it appears the Cavs have removed themselves from the running.
Right now, most of the rumors are exactly that — rumors. But it’s pretty clear the Jazz are talking to teams about Mitchell and the Lakers are exploring ways to move Mitchell. So perhaps they can come together and help each other out.
