Lakers guard Kendrick Nunn intends to exercise the player option in his contract, avoiding free agency, as relayed by Bill Oram of The Athletic.
Nunn, 26, is 6-foot-2 and missed the entire season — his first in LA — with a right knee bone bruise. He spent the first two years of his career with the Heat, averaging 14.6 points and 6.2 rebounds in 2020-21.
He is guaranteed $5.25 million next season and told reporters it’s a “no-brainer” to pick up the option. Nunn added that the bone bruise that kept him out all year was “extremely frustrating,” adding that he expects to be full healthy for training camp in October.
The Lakers just completed a disappointing 33-49 season and parted ways with coach Frank Vogel.
Nunn is just one of five players on the roster with a guaranteed deal for next season. The others: LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook, who has a $44.7 option he will undoubtedly exercise. Also, the Lakers hold a team option on Talen Horton-Tucker.
