The Los Angeles Lakers find themselves in a bit of a bind as they head into tonight’s home matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, with LeBron James’ absence continuing to loom large.
Although James has been sidelined due to a left foot injury, the team has offered some clarity, confirming it’s for “injury management.” James hasn’t played since December 6, and after a period of absence for personal reasons, his status remains questionable for the game tonight.
His presence, or lack thereof, has left the Lakers searching for answers, especially on the offensive end.
Over their past few games, the Lakers’ offensive struggles have been glaring. In their loss to Minnesota on Friday, they scored a mere 87 points, their lowest output of the season. In fact, over the last 10 games, they’ve failed to reach 110 points in eight of them, a stark contrast to their early-season form, where they surpassed that mark 12 times in the first 15 contests.
Anthony Davis has been vocal about the need for improvement, pointing to the team’s lack of shooting confidence.
“We’re getting great looks,” Davis said, “we just gotta make shots.” The Lakers have been generating plenty of open three-point opportunities, but their inability to convert from beyond the arc has been a persistent issue.
While the team’s defense remains solid, and players like Davis are contributing in key areas, the Lakers are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain consistency on offense.
Without LeBron, their scoring burden falls more heavily on Davis and the supporting cast, but they need to find their shooting touch. Tonight’s game against Memphis could be a pivotal moment for the Lakers, as they look to rediscover their rhythm and bounce back from a rough stretch.
