Raptors coach Nick Nurse is among those the Lakers intend to target for their own coaching vacancy, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Lakers parted ways with Frank Vogel not long after the regular-season finale, and while Nurse may be on their radar, there is no sense he will part ways with the Raptors. While the Lakers failed to qualify for the play-in tournament, the Raptors finished strong and finished as the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Along with that, Nurse signed a contract extension with the Raptors two years ago, and still has left two years remaining on the deal. “It is unclear whether Nurse would have interest in the Lakers or if he would be attainable due to his contract status,” RealGM wrote.
If the Lakers were indeed to pursue Nurse, they would first need to receive the Raptors’ permission to speak to him. The Raptors would also likely be due some form of trade compensation if the Lakers were able to pry Nurse away.
Nurse coached the Raptors to their lone championship in 2020 and is former NBA Coach of the Year. Along with Nurse, Michigan coach Juwan Howard has been linked to the Lakers job, as we relayed earlier.
