Lakers signing Drew Timme to two-way deal, waiving Christian Koloko

The Lakers are making a move at the back end of the roster.

Shams Charania of ESPN reports the team is waiving Christian Koloko to open a two-way slot for Drew Timme, confirming the plan first reported by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

Timme, who became a college legend at Gonzaga, has spent most of the past two years grinding in the G League after going undrafted in 2023.

Brooklyn gave him a two-year deal late last season and even picked up his team option in June, but because the contract was non-guaranteed, he was waived during the preseason.

He’s been with South Bay to start 2025-26 and has put up eye-catching numbers in the NBAGL Tip-Off Tournament — 28.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists on .481 shooting. The Lakers clearly saw enough.

Koloko ends up being the odd man out. The third-year center logged only brief garbage-time minutes this season and averaged 2.4 points and 2.5 rebounds for L.A. last year.

Chris Manon — the undrafted Vanderbilt wing who has been stuffing stat sheets for South Bay and leading the G League in steals — sticks around for now, along with Nick Smith Jr.

The Lakers will hope Timme’s feel, motor and production translate as the frontcourt shuffle continues.
