Free agent forward Kenneth Faried will work out for the Lakers this week, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
Faried, 31, is 6-foot-8 and last played in the Chinese Basketball Association during the 2019-20 season. His prior NBA experience came the season before that, when he appeared in a combined 37 games between the Nets and Rockets.
A high-energy player who’s always been willing to mix it up, Faried could potentially be the type of forward who could help the Lakers replace Montrezl Harrell, traded to the Wizards as part of the Russell Westbrook deal.
Faried spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Nuggets, when he was a starter and borderline All-Star.
That said, he hasn’t played in the NBA for a few seasons and there’s a reason he was unsigned after his last stint.
Still, the remade Lakers are always on the lookout for veterans who can get it done at playoff time.
“The new-look Lakers have 13 players signed to guaranteed contracts thus far, two players on Exhibit 10 training camp deals, and both of their two-way contract slots occupied,” wrote Alex Kirschenbaum of Hoops Rumors. “If he’s anything like his Nuggets self, Faried could help shore up the club’s big man depth.”
