The Lakers intend to waive small forward Alfonzo McKinnie, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
McKinnie still has two years left on a minimum-salary contract, but he has become the victim of a numbers game, as the Lakers are revamping the roster in free agency.
Along with trading for Russell Westbrook, they have added the likes of Carmelo Anthony, Kendrick Nunn, Malik Monk, Trevor Ariza, Wayne Ellington, Dwight Howard and Kent Bazemore.
McKinnie, 28, appeared in 39 games for the Lakers last season, averaging 3.1 points and shooting 51 percent from the field.
The final two years of his deal were nonguarateed, meaning the Lakers won’t have to worry about more dead money on the cap.
McKinnie, meanwhile, is sure to draw interest oce he clears waivers, assuming no one claims him. He has also spent time with the Raptors, Warriors and Cavaliers.
