Lakers small forward Trevor Ariza will be out at least eight weeks with an arthroscopic procedure on his right ankle, the team announced in a press release.
Ariza, 36, returned to the Lakers this past offseason on a one-year contract. He had previously played for the franchise from 2007-09.
This time, he was viewed as potential starter alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the frontcourt.
The well-traveled Ariza averaged 9.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 30 games with the Heat last season. He has also played for the Knicks, Magic, Trail Blazers, Kings, Suns, Rockets, Wizards and Hornets.
Los Angeles’ roster is currently at 19 players, with 13 under guaranteed contract.
