Lakers Waive Quinndary Weatherspoon

The Lakers have waived guard Quinndary Weatherspoon one day after signing him, the team announced in a press release.

The move will likely send Weatherspoon to the South Bay Lakers of the G League and make him eligible for a $75,000 bonus, should he remain with the franchise for 60 days.

While playing with the Israeli club, Maccabi Ra’anana, Weatherspoon showcased back-to-back impressive preseason performances, averaging 15.5 points (52% FG, 40% 3P) in 2 exhibition games vs. the Nets (17 points) and Cavs (14 points). As a result, Weatherspoon has earned another shot at playing in the NBA.

Weatherspoon, 27, 6-foot-3, played four years at Mississippi state, before going on to be selected by the Spurs in the second round with the 49th pick of the 2019 NBA draft.

Spending two seasons in San Antonio, Weatherspoon appeared in 31 games and averaged only 1.9 points in 7 minutes per contest.

Then in January of 2022, the Warriors signed him to a two-way deal, where Weatherspoon appeared in 29 games for Golden State’s G-League affiliate, Santa Cruz Warriors, averaging 25.3 points (51.8% FG, 28.2% 3P), 6.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.0 steals in 31.4 minutes per game.

After only appearing in 11 NBA games for the Warriors in limited minutes, he was later waived by the team at the start of last season.
