The Lakers will open their two-way slot to sign power forward Wenyen Gabriel by waiving forward Sekou Doumbouya, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
Gabriel, 24, is 6-foot-9 and has appeared in seven games this season — one with the Nets, and six with the Clippers, averaging a combined 2.0 points and 2.1 rebounds.
The former Kentucky big man has also spent time with the Kings, Blazers and Pelicans since entering the NBA in 2019. He has played 58 games overall.
His last 10-day contract with New Orleans came on Jan. 29, but that deal expired, returning him to free agency.
Doumbouya, 21, is a former first-round pick who has appeared in two games with the Lakers. He originally signed a two-way deal with them on Jan. 12. He also appeared in 12 games for the South Bay Lakers of the G League, averaging 6.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 20 minutes per night.
Rookie shooting guard Mason Jones is the Lakers’ other two-way player. He also has appeared in two games with LA.
Of course, the biggest moves the Lakers have made lately was deciding to waive veteran center DeAndre Jordan and sign point guard D.J. Augustin, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
