All has been quiet on the Kevin Durant front, but that doesn’t mean the Nets are done trying to trade him. Just the opposite, it seems.
“The Nets are still trying to find a deal” for Durant, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski said on GetUp.
Here is what we think we know: Durant has the Suns and Heat at the top of his list of preferred destinations. The Suns were reportedly the frontrunners — by a mile. But after they re-signed Deandre Ayton (matching an offer from the Pacers), Phoenix may be out on Durant.
Meanwhile, the Heat remain very active in finding ways to land Durant, though they supposedly will have to find a way to acquire more draft picks, as we relayed here. And they are trying, it seems.
As it stands, the Heat can trade two of their own first-rounders. They could possiby make it three if they can convince the Thunder to change protections on a 2025 first-rounder (it is currently lottery-protected).
Other than that, the Heat’s supposed offer of Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson and picks is doing little to inspire the Nets. Eventually, it is believed, the Heat will up the offer.
Of course, the Nets aren’t determined to trade Durant to he Suns or Heat. They’ll trade him to the Kings or Pacers or any other non-playoff team if it means they get what they want in return.
Several sources even have told Hoops Wire to keep an eye on the Wizards, who could make a major push. Durant is a DC product, too. He may not be upset about playing at home alongside Bradley Beal.
At any rate, there is a sense that Durant could indeed change his mind, and return to Brooklyn, giving it another go alongside Kyrie Irving. But if that happens, it won’t be for lack of trying on the Nets’ end. They continue to seek out deals, and that is what Durant has indicated he prefers.
