Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has been making the rounds lately. First in Cleveland to take in an NBA playoff game between the Cavaliers and Boston Celtics on Monday.
Then, two days later in Chicago to watch son Bronny James play at the NBA Combine.
Sources have told Hoops Wire that Bronny James is likely to keep his name in the NBA Draft, and most of those sources expect him to get drafted. This despite a subpar freshman season at USC that began with a heart scare.
Either way, Bronny has been joining the other prospects in drills, measurements, interviews, and games of 5-on-5. LeBron was there for it all.
Bronny averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 25 games for the Trojans after missing the first month of the season.
Bronny James, 19, told reporters that he’s mostly focused on trying to make his own name in the NBA.
“I would be happy about getting to the league instead of me thinking about playing with my dad,” Bronny said, via ESPN. “That’s not my mindset or not at all. I’m just trying to put in the work and see where it takes me from there.”
finished with four points and four rebounds during the combine scrimmage on Tuesday. LeBron’s son crushed the 3-point star shooting drill on Monday, going 19/25 from beyond the arc.
“Bronny was just a nickname that I was just given when I was younger,” he said. “But everything that follows my dad, people just try to link me with that and all the greatness that he’s achieved. I haven’t done anything yet, so I feel like there needs to be that divide between Bronny and LeBron. Everyone’s heard this before. I just want to have people know my name is Bronny James and not be identified as just LeBron James’ son. I feel like that would be great.”
