The Golden State Warriors might have their eyes on LeBron James, but don’t hold your breath. While the Warriors reportedly have interest, it’s clear James isn’t itching for a change of scenery.
Instead, his focus remains on the Lakers — and on the front office doing its job to improve the roster. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst laid it out plainly on Get Up.
“I’m a gigantic actions-over-words guy, and LeBron’s actions make it extremely clear he wants to be a Laker,” Windhorst said. “At last year’s trade deadline, he rejected the Warriors’ interest. Then he sat there and offered to take less money from the Lakers if they could find somebody in free agency. They didn’t, and he still signed a three-year deal with a no-trade clause anyway.”
Translation? James isn’t looking to jump ship. He’s locked in with the Lakers and has made it clear he wants the franchise to build around him.
Specifically, James is reportedly pushing for defensive upgrades, with the Lakers searching for a big man and a guard ahead of the February trade deadline.
Still, as Windhorst pointed out, the NBA world is never short on drama.
“We have two months, basically, until the trade deadline,” he said. “If he changes his mind, I promise you it will get public, and we will all know.”
For now, though, James seems content to ride it out in Los Angeles. Whether the Lakers can give him the help he’s asking for is another story entirely.
But if history is any indicator, LeBron knows how to apply pressure when he needs to. The clock is ticking, and all eyes are on the Lakers’ front office to deliver.
