One thing we can say about Michael Jordan, for those who consider him the NBA GOAT, is that he rarely missed a game. Now, LeBron James says he would like to do the same.
“Yeah. I plan on playing every game,” James told reporters after the Lakers overcame a 22-point deficit to beat the Suns on Friday. “We’ll see what happens. You never know. We’ll see what happens if I don’t.”
Well, so far, so good — as James has played in the first two, both wins, scoring 21 against Phoenix.
Of course, Anthony Davis has been the Lakers’ best player, and very well may be on his way to a season in which he could be in the NBA MVP discussion.
“It’s very important that he’s the main focal point for us every single night,” James said. “We know what he’s going to do defensively, but offensively we have to find him in multiple places on the floor throughout the whole game. And we’ve done that through two games.”
Davis finished Friday’s game with 35 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks — one game after erupting for 36 points, 16 boards, four assists and three blocks in the opening win over the Timberwolves.
James carries career averages of 27.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.7 blocks with the Cavaliers, Heat and Lakers. He’s a four-time MVP, four-time champion and a four-time Finals MVP.
James grew up idolizing Jordan and is first in NBA history in points, fourth in assists, eighth in steals, second in field goals, eighth in 3-point field goals, fifth in triple-doubles, seventh in points per game and third in player efficiency rating. He turns 40 years old on December 30.
