Lakers star LeBron James sat out Monday’s loss to the Spurs with knee soreness, and remains questionable for Wednesday’s road game vs. the Rockets.
The news on James came after he erupted for 56 points in a much-needed win over the Warriors. Lakers coach Frank Vogel told reporters the best the Lakers can do is hope for a speedy return. Vogel said before Monday’s game that James is experiencing “significant” soreness in the knee.
“We’re hopeful that another day or two will get us back, get him back for the Houston game,” Vogel said.
James, 37, missed five games earlier in the season because of the same knee, but this is the first time he’s been out with the injury since January.
“With the heavy load that he’s carrying for us this year, we know that it’s always a possibility,” Vogel said, via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “I think that’s why we continue to list him as questionable to see how it’s responding over the 48 hours between games. And this is just one of those days where it was significant enough to hold him out.”
The Lakers (28-36) sit in ninth place in the Western Conference, and despite the win over the Warriors, have lost eight of their past 10 games.
