Whether by himself or with his son, Lakers star LeBron James made it clear he enjoys coming back to Cleveland and visiting the NBA franchise he helped make famous.
But he also seems to realize these days won’t last forever.
“Every time I come here, it’s like, ‘OK, how many more times will it be for me in this building?’ It could only be a couple more times. Maybe it’s only one more time now. I don’t know the answer,” James said, via Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com. “But I know I’m on the other side of the fence than that previous fence. I know I don’t have many more times coming here and playing the game that I love, so I don’t take it for granted.”
James and the Lakers were run out of the building by the Cavaliers, 134-110, on Wednesday. The one silver lining, at least as far as LeBron is probably concerned, is that Bronny James entered with five minutes to go and scored his first NBA basket.
Bronny is next headed to the G League, now that he’s played with his dad and scored his first NBA points.
But LeBron has another son, Bryce, who’s currently a senior in high school. Despite the fact LeBron turns 40 at the end of December, Cavs center Tristan Thompson predicted to Fedor that LeBron will stick around long enough to play with Bryce, too.
“Oh s—,” LeBron said, laughing, when told of Thompson’s comments, via Fedor. “Bryce is a senior. I don’t know. We’ll see. We’ll see. That would be pretty cool. It’s all about my mind and then seeing how my body reacts over these next couple of years.”
LeBron, whose 40th birthday arrives Dec. 30, has suggested in the past that he’d like to play into his 40s, and if does, the buzz will soon start about Bryce joining him, too. Whether or not that’s realistic … well, who’s to say?
This is LeBron we’re talking about and as he’s shown us during his NBA career, all is possible.
