Lakers star LeBron James will miss his second straight game with a sprained left ankle Tuesday vs. the Suns, as relayed by Shams Charania of Stadium.
The Lakers (31-47) have lost five straight and are two games behind the Spurs for 10th seed in the Western Conference. The Spurs own the tiebreaker, and are about a win away, or a Lakers’ loss, from securing a spot in the play-in tournament — and eliminating the Lakers altogether.
No matter how that plays out, the combination of James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook (and other older additions) have made the Lakers this season’s biggest bust.
And as relayed earlier, Lakers coach Frank Vogel is expected to be fired after the season because of it.
The Lakers don’t have enough young legs to defend very well, and that is something they’ve proved all season. Without James, they won’t have much of an offence, either.
James has been a scoring machine lately, and what he’s been doing at the age of 37, on a sprained ankle, is truly old-school, admirable stuff. He will keep battling. But this year, the roster isn’t good enough to come along for the ride.
