Luka Doncic Threw Phone After Mavericks Traded Him To Lakers: ‘My Heart Was Broken’

NBA superstar Luka Doncic threw his phone after the Dallas Mavericks traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers

Incredibly, Doncic’s phone didn’t break and he’s still using it.

The Mavericks traded Doncic to the Lakers for Anthony Davis and Max Christie.

Doncic was in bed watching something on his iPad when he found out Dallas was trading him.

“Well I was actually in the bed,” Doncic told Malika Andrews of ESPN. “My TV wasn’t working, so I was on (the) iPad watching (a) movie, about to go to sleep. First thing I said like probably three times, ‘Is this April 1?'”

Doncic wanted to spend his entire career with the Mavericks, who reached the NBA Finals last season.

However, Dallas general manager Nico Harrison no longer wanted to build around Doncic.

“It’s just sad the way he’s talking right now,” Doncic said about Harrison. “I’ve never said anything bad about him. And I just wanna move on.”

The Lakers will face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2025 playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks have to beat the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday to make the postseason.

Doncic scored 45 points in his return to Dallas despite crying during his video tribute. It was an unbelieve performance.

“It was so special,” Doncic said. “With the fans, with teammates. Just being there, it was something I’ve never seen in my life and it was just special, the love between me and the fans.”

One of the best players in the NBA, Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.7 assists this season with the Mavericks and Lakers. He shot 45.0% from the field, 36.8% from beyond the arc and 78.2% from the free-throw line.

Game 1 between the Lakers and Timberwolves is on Saturday. Doncic is second in NBA history in postseason points per game (30.9).
