The Magic appear to be willing listeners on center Mo Bamba, guards Gary Harris and R.J. Hampton, and guard/forward Terrence Ross ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
With the exception of perhaps Hampton, none of those four players appear to be part of the Magic’s long-term building plan. And with a fairly crowded backcourt, Hampton may be part of a numbers game.
As is generally the case, the Magic are likely seeking picks and/or a young player with upside in exchange for any of the aforementioned. Harris and Ross are the type of veterans who, undoubtedly, could help another team’s playoff push.
The Magic haven’t been mentioned in a lot of trade rumors, as they seem content to let their promising young core develop, then fill in the edges around it. Still, all teams are open to moves at this time of year, so it will be interesting to see how things go in Orlando over the next several weeks.
- Rival teams are monitoring Ross as a potential buyout candidate after the deadline, Stein reported. While Ross has been open about wanting to play for a contender, he has remained professional in his approach and has not requested a trade.
- Meanwhile, Bamba has fallen out of favor with the Magic and Dalton Trigg of SI.com examines if the Mavericks should perhaps pursue a trade. (Full post.)
- Again, the overwhelming consensus is that the Magic are more likely to stand pat at the deadline than become a major player, as relayed by Jeremy Brenner of SI.com.
