Anthony Davis plans to pursue a contract extension with the Mavericks this offseason, provided he’s not traded, NBA sources told Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.
If Dallas ultimately moves him, Davis and agent Rich Paul would seek an extension with whatever team acquires him, according to the report.
Davis is eligible for a four-year, $275 million maximum extension in August. He is earning $54.1 million this season, with $58.5 million guaranteed for next year and a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season.
Afseth reports that the Warriors, Raptors, and Hawks have shown interest in trading for Davis.
Availability has been the issue. Davis has appeared in just 16 games this season, averaging 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks while shooting 52.1 percent from the field. He was injured on Christmas Day against Golden State and could miss additional time.
Since arriving in Dallas in last season’s blockbuster Luka Doncic deal, Davis has played only 25 games for the Mavericks. His production has remained steady, but his inability to stay on the floor has loomed over the situation.
Dallas is also exploring the trade market for Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson, and D’Angelo Russell, Afseth reports. All four players have surfaced in rumors since Nico Harrison was fired as general manager.
The Mavericks are listening but not desperate. Sources said Dallas will not move Davis unless it receives a strong return.
