The Mavericks have looked into the possibility of trading shooting guard Josh Richardson ahead of Thursday’s NBA Draft, per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
While Fischer didn’t list any interested parties, or who Dallas may be speaking with, there is sure to be no shortage of suitors.
Richardson, 27, is 6-foot-5 and averaged a solid 12.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 59 games this past season.
But in order to make some other potential moves, the Mavericks may need to move on from Richardson. Per Fischer, retaining free agent shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. is among the Mavs’ offseason priorities.
They are also among the many teams that have been linked to Raptors free agent point guard Kyle Lowry, and have even been mentioned as a suitor of Jazz point guard Mike Conley, also an unrestricted free agent.
“The Mavericks must make their own efforts to clear salary space for a planned spurge in free agency,” Fischer wrote.
Since the end of last season, Dallas has replaced longtime general manager Donnie Nelson with former Nike executive Nico Harrison, and longtime coach Rick Carlisle with Jason Kidd.
It appears reconfiguring the roster around star guard/forward Luka Doncic is next, and those plans may start with Richardson.
