The market for available Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga is starting to take shape, and it’s narrower than it once appeared.
The Suns, once viewed as a potential landing spot, are no longer in the mix, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Shams Charania. Phoenix’s interest has cooled, removing one of the cleaner theoretical fits for Kuminga.
The Mavericks remain a team to watch, though with important caveats. League sources say Dallas has shown interest, but largely in the context of a larger framework tied to Anthony Davis.
Whether the Mavericks would pursue Kuminga as a standalone acquisition remains unclear, and that distinction matters given Dallas’ current roster and cap considerations.
The Lakers have also been mentioned, with team and league sources telling The Athletic there is at least some level of interest. That said, there’s no indication the Lakers and Warriors have engaged in meaningful dialogue. As of today, it appears to be more due diligence than momentum.
As for rumored counters, they’re thinning out. Golden State has been loosely linked to Michael Porter Jr., but a team source told The Athletic there have been no substantive talks with the Nets, and ESPN reports the Warriors haven’t seriously discussed Porter in over a month.
The Pelicans continue to shut down inquiries on Trey Murphy III, and there’s never been evidence they’d have interest in Kuminga anyway.
In short, the list is shrinking. Interest exists, but leverage is limited. And with the Feb. 5 deadline approaching, the Warriors may soon have to decide whether patience or pragmatism wins out.
