For Klay Thompson, it’s all about the Mavericks. As for the Warriors, well, that’s ancient history — at least at the moment.
Thompson and the Mavs visit Golden State on Tuesday. And again, when it comes to Thompson, he told Marc J. Spears of Andscape that he hasn’t stayed in touch with former Splash Brother Stephen Curry or Draymond Green.
“I’m locked in. Not really,” Thompson told Spears. “I will see them when I see them. That’s it.”
Thompson has been decent as a starter alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, though the Mavs have been just OK in the results department (5-5). Meanwhile, the Warriors (8-2) have been mostly great with a newer lineup. Curry and Green are still there, and newcomers such as Buddy Hield and De’Anthony Melton have more than replaced the Thompson we saw last season.
No matter, the reception for Thompson is sure to be wildly warm — and that is putting it mildly. Yet he is focused on the here, now and what’s to come.
“That chapter is over,” Thompson said. “I’m in the midst of trying to win here. There is no point in missing anything when we have such a great opportunity here to be great. There’s no point in looking back …
“I got to look forward. I got to try to give my best self here.”
Dallas is coming off a run to the NBA Finals, while Golden State was expected to struggle to make the playoffs. There are still more than 70 games to go, so as we generally see, anything is possible.
