Mavericks, Spencer Dinwiddie Agree To One-Year Contract

The Dallas Mavericks intend to bring back guard Spencer Dinwiddie on a one-year contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.Spencer Dinwiddie, Anthony Davis, NBA, Lakers

This possibility was first reported by Marc Stein of The Stein Line, who reported that the Mavs had an interest in Dinwiddie, as well as guard Dennis Smith Jr. (another former Mav) and wing Talen Horton-Tucker.

The Mavs are coming off a run to the Finals, and even after adding Klay Thompson, could still use some depth.

“Dallas could elect to keep the spot open in the short-term, but league sources say that the Mavericks do hold an interest in re-signing Spencer Dinwiddie,” Stein wrote in his latest Substack newsletter. “League sources say that the Mavericks have also considered signing Dennis Smith Jr. and Talen Horton-Tucker.”

Dinwiddie, 31, finished last season with the Los Angeles Lakers after starting with the Brooklyn Nets. His time in LA, though, was less-than-impressive after receiving inconsistent playing time.

In 76 games total last season, Dinwiddie averaged 10.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 47 assists, shooting 39.2% from the field and 33.7% on 3-pointers. He has also spent time with the Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards, and has served a previous stint with the Mavericks (2021-23).

Dallas is aiming for a return to championship contention, and the acquisitions of Thompson and Dinwiddie — placing them next to team stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving — offer more evidence.
