Former lottery pick Dennis Smith Jr. is conducting a private workout for about 10 teams in Las Vegas, agent Daniel Hazan told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
The workout was scheduled for Monday, Haynes reported, and the Mavericks are expected to be among those in attendance, per Dalton Trigg of Dallas Basketball.
Smith, 24, is a 6-foot-2 point guard and spent last season with the Trail Blazers, appearing in 37 games and averaging 5.6 points and 3.6 assists. The Blazers waived him Feb. 21 and he has been an unrestricted free agent since.
The No. 9 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Mavs, he has also spent time with the Knicks and Pistons.
Dallas is on the lookout for another guard after Jalen Brunson left for the Knicks in free agency, so perhaps a door is opening for Smith to return.
Right now, he remains on our position-by-position list of available free agents, which you can find at this link.
