The Mavericks are among the teams that have spoken to the Celtics about the possibility of a sign-and-trade arrangement centered on forward Grant Williams, per Tim Cato of The Athletic.
Williams is about to become a restricted free agent — meaning if another team were to sign him, the Celtics could simply match the offer. A sign-and-trade would enable the Celtics to get something back should they decide to move on from Williams.
But apparently, Dallas isn’t alone. Per Jared Weiss of The Athletic, more than six teams have touched base with Boston on potentially acquiring Williams in a sign-and-trade deal.
The Mavs are looking to re-sign star guard Kyrie Irving, an unrestricted free agent, and add veteran help alongside Irving and fellow star Luka Doncic. They are not expected to bring back center/forward Christian Wood, though, and clearly are aiming to reset the roster, particularly in the frontcourt.
Multiple reports suggest Dallas has been dangling its No. 10 overall pick in trade talks.
