Anthony Davis will remain out for at least the next week as he continues to recover from a left calf strain, the Mavericks announced.
The team said his latest reevaluation showed good progress, but he won’t be checked again for another seven to 10 days.
“He wants to play. He’s doing everything to get back,” coach Jason Kidd told reporters, per Mike Curtis of the Dallas Morning News. “This gives him seven-to-10 days to get better, and hopefully he’s back on the floor.”
Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont has reportedly pushed for a cautious return timeline, preferring to limit any chance of re-aggravating the injury.
Davis has appeared in just five games for Dallas this season, with the Mavs going 2-3 in those contests.
He’s averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. He’s missed the past nine games after exiting a win over the Pacers on Oct. 29.
The Mavericks are 4-10 after Sunday’s overtime win over the Trail Blazers.
