The Mavericks have agreed to trade forward Kristaps Porzingis with the Wizards in a package for guard Spencer Dinwiddie, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Along with Dinwiddie, the Wizards will send forward Davis Bertans to the Mavs and receive a second-round pick, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
This becomes one of several moves of the day for the Wizards, who are also sending forward/center Montrezl Harrell to the Hornets for guard Ish Smith and center Vernon Carey, and point guard Aaron Holiday to the Suns, as we relayed earlier.
Porzingis, 26, is having a pretty decent season, averaging 19.2 points and 7.7 rebounds in 34 appearances. He gives the Wizards some frontcourt firepower for next season, once star guard Bradley Beal returns from wrist surgery.
Dinwiddie, 28, is averaging 12.6 points, 5.8 assists and 4.7 rebounds in 44 games, but it is believed his Wizards teammates did not find him to be a fit. Nonetheless, he gives the Mavericks another scoring and ball-handling option alongside Luka Doncic.
Bertans, 29, is averaging 5.7 points in 34 games. His opportunities with the Wizards were limited after all the summer roster changes, and a trade to the Mavericks may offer a chance at increased minutes.
Dinwiddie, Harrell and Holiday were all part of the Wizards’ four-team trade this past offseason that send Russell Westbrook to the Lakers. But both Washington and LA have struggled since, leading to a shakeup in the nation’s capital.
