The Mavericks remain active on the trade front after using their No. 10 pick to rid themselves of forward Davis Bertans‘ contract, sending Bertans and the draft rights to Kentucky guard Cason Wallace to the Thunder.
In exchange, the Mavs received the No. 12 pick and draft rights to Duke center Dereck Lively II and a trade exception worth $17 million.
It’s that second part that they are really excited about, as a trade exception can be used to add to the roster. And per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Mavs are indeed looking to utilize the trade exception to land a veteran and a pick.
Another veteran is actually their main goal this season, as they look to add to the star backcourt of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who they hope to re-sign. Lively could help do that in time. Now, the Mavs are looking for someone who can help do it now.
The Mavericks are active in the trade marketplace to use their new $17M exception to acquire a player and a current/future pick, sources said.
