The Mavericks have waived two-way small forward Eugene Omoruyi, the team announced in a press release.
Omoruyi, 24, is 6-foot-7 and has appeared in eight games after signing with the Mavs on Aug. 13. This is his first NBA season after going undrafted out of Oregon, where he earned first-team All-Pac 12 honors as a senior.
He recently underwent right toe surgery is expected to miss four-to-six months.
The move opens a two-way slot for the Mavericks.
“Under normal circumstances, the Mavs might be able to be more patient with their two-way contract guys, but with mounting absences piling up due to injuries and NBA health and safety protocols, Dallas couldn’t afford to have a rehabbing player occupying a non-guaranteed roster spot,” wrote Dalton Trigg of DallasBasketball.
Omoruyi could still potentially return to the Texas Legends of the G League moving forward, Trigg added.
