Michigan coach Juwan Howard has turned away an overture from the Lakers as they search for a new main man on the sideline, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The Lakers are currently looking to replace Frank Vogel, fired after three seasons. Howard is a former NBA player and Heat teammate of LeBron James, but apparently, he fully intends to stay with the Wolverines.
“Howard is coaching his two sons — Jace and Jett — in Ann Arbor,” Wojnarowski wrote.
The Lakers reportedly have narrowed their search to three finalists: Bucks assistant Darvin Ham, ex-Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts and former Nets coach and current Clippers assistant Kenny Atkinson. Ham reportedly is the frontrunner for the job.
Howard was first linked to the Lakers back in early April. He served as an assistant with the Heat from 2013-19, before taking the Michigan job. He led the Wolverines to the Elite Eight in 2021, then to the Sweet Sixteen this past season.
