NBA addresses Giannis Antetokounmpo situation

The NBA says its investigation into the Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo remains ongoing, with key details still unresolved.

In a statement relayed by ESPN’s Shams Charania, a league spokesperson said “certain facts remain in dispute” regarding Antetokounmpo’s status and Milwaukee’s handling of his injury.

According to the league, the Bucks scheduled Antetokounmpo to participate in three-on-three scrimmages last week as part of his return-to-play process, but he declined.

There is also disagreement about whether the team requested that he take part in a group workout earlier this week.

Antetokounmpo, who has been sidelined since March 15 with what the team has described as a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise, has maintained that he is healthy enough to play.

“I’m available to play… Right now,” he said earlier this week. “I don’t know what game is being played right here.”

Milwaukee, meanwhile, has indicated the two-time MVP is not yet ready to return.

The investigation is focused in part on the NBA’s player participation policy and whether there were inconsistencies in how Antetokounmpo’s status was communicated.
