The Cavaliers are still interviewing and deciding on coaching candidates. Same goes for the Lakers. But at least the Cavs’ search, while uneventful, has consisted of zero drama. There’s a lot to be said for that in today’s NBA.
The Lakers, of course, went after UConn’s Dan Hurley in a very public pursuit and failed miserably. It actually seems as if the Lakers weren’t responsible for all the buzz about Hurley — and it instead was a result of Hurley himself.
Either way, the Cavs have managed to keep their own search close to the vest. As I’ve written about 100 times, their list may be very different than the one we keep reading about in the media.
I discuss all that and more in the latest Hoops Wire Show from 330 to Go. Check it out in the video directly below.
As I mentioned in the video, the Cavs have interviewed New Orleans Pelicans assistant James Borrego, and I believe, Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, and Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori.
Borrego, to me, is the frontrunner — but that’s just a gut feeling. Not any inside information. As one rival NBA GM told me, “No one really has the inside track (in the Cavs’ coaching search). No one is even really positive who they’re talking to.”
That said, I know for a fact they at least interviewed Borrego and a source told me they walked away impressed. Of all the names mentioned, he would be my pick. I also like Dallas Mavericks assistant Alex Jensen, though I don’t know if he’s an actual candidate. I’ve heard he is.
Anyway, check out all my thoughts in the video above or directly on YouTube right here.
