NBA Sticking With Two-Day Format For 2025 Draft

The NBA has officially confirmed that its two-day draft format will return in 2025, following its successful debut in 2024, as relayed by Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.NBA Draft, NBA news

This year’s draft will take place on Wednesday, June 25, with Round 1 starting at 8:00 pm ET, and Round 2 will follow on Thursday, June 26, also at 8:00 pm ET. As has become tradition, the event will be hosted at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The decision to split the draft into two days last year came after the NBA, in collaboration with the NBPA, recognized the need to shine a brighter spotlight on the second round. In previous years, the second round often began late into the night, with picks flying by in quick succession, sometimes made during commercial breaks, making it hard for fans and teams to fully engage with the proceedings.

With the new format, teams now have four minutes per pick in Round 2, compared to just two minutes in the old setup. This gives general managers and their front offices more time to make decisions and adds a bit more drama to the proceedings.

For fans, it theoretically makes for a more engaging, digestible experience, while also allowing the second round to get the attention it deserves.

So expect perhaps more trades, more intrigue, and a much smoother flow throughout the event — as it appears the NBA’s two-day draft format is here to stay. But also keep an eye on how the league continues to tweak its approach, as this may become a regular feature moving forward.
