Malik Beasley is not waiting around. With his NBA status still unresolved, the veteran sharpshooter is heading to Puerto Rico, agreeing to join the Cangrejeros de Santurce.
The team announced the move on social media. Santurce competes in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional, which tips off its 2026 season next month.
The landing spot is notable. The franchise is owned by pop star Bad Bunny, and Beasley will step into a high-visibility role while remaining relatively close to the NBA ecosystem.
Beasley’s career, statistically, is not the issue. The 29-year-old is coming off arguably the best season of his nine-year NBA run, averaging 16.3 points per game in 2024-25, hitting 319 three-pointers, and appearing in all 82 games.
He finished second in the league in total made threes and was the runner-up for Sixth Man of the Year on a Pistons team that improved by 30 wins and ended a five-year playoff drought.
Instead, Beasley has been stuck in limbo.
Federal investigators and the NBA continue to examine a possible connection to illegal betting activity. Beasley has not been arrested, charged, or disciplined by the league, but the uncertainty has stalled his market.
Last summer, he was believed to be nearing a three-year, $42 million deal with the Pistons before news of the investigation surfaced.
While waiting for clarity, Beasley has drawn interest from teams in Europe and China. This route keeps him closer to home, gives him a platform to stay sharp, and offers a showcase setting ahead of 2026 free agency.
