Lakers
Forward Jarred Vanderbilt may not be ready for Lakers training camp, per Mike Bresnahan of Spectrum Sports. Vanderbilt struggled with injuries last season and missed the end of the year with ongoing foot issues.
“Vando is gonna be interesting. I’m not sure he’ll be ready for training camp or even for the preseason games,” Bresnahan said on the Lakeshow podcast. “It’s a foot injury. He opted not to have a procedure in-season when he got hurt in February. So we’ll see if he’s ready to go. I don’t have a lot of details on it but I’m not sure he’ll be ready for training camp. Regular season is a different story, hopefully he’s ready by then. But nothing concrete on him yet.”
- New Lakers coach JJ Redick signified he is ready for his first camp. He suggested LeBron James and Anthony Davis will, too, even after their Paris Olympic run with team USA. “They’ll certainly be involved in training camp and the preseason here in September as well as preseason games,” Redick told Spectrum Sports.
- In case you missed it, the Lakers extended a training camp invite to free agent wing Cedi Osman. He chose Greece instead.
Trail Blazers
Forward Jerami Grant and center Robert Williams are potential trade chips, per Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
“Jerami Grant — he’s probably one of the guys in the league that teams will look at,” Windhorst said on the Hoop Collective podcast. “But I would also say, with Donovan Clingan getting drafted there and Deandre Ayton on the roster, I don’t think Ayton is very tradable. A guy to watch who is very tradable is ‘The Time Lord,’ one of the great nicknames in the whole NBA, Robert Williams. Coming back off injury, obviously, he’s a guy who’s had repeated injury problems, but he makes $13 million. They may be willing to part with him, and he could go to a contender and be a significant piece if he is healthy.”
Knicks
Small forward Mikal Bridges told the crowd at a Knicks event in Central Park that his ready to roll with his new team.
“Long offseason. I got the itch right now,” Bridges said, via Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. “I’m ready right now. I’m active. It’s been too long.”
Bondy added:
“Josh Hart, a host of the event, continued his long-running trolling of the Nets, asking Bridges how it feels to ‘be in greener pastures’ after being traded to the Knicks.
“Bridges responded by telling the crowd — many of whom were eager to boo at every mention of Brooklyn — that the Knicks got a better player because of his stint in the outer borough.”

Cavs trading for Grant would give them an extra gear to shift into.. I can see Mitchell looking for him up court and on the break. A running mate for Mitchell. We don’t have a ton of mobility on the wings.
I don’t want to trade any Cavaliers away.. but there are certain guys that would fill some gaps/weaknesses that we have. Grant is one.
The money is a barrier though most likely.
