With Two Wins, Both In OT, Sixers’ Issues Run Deeper Than Star Availability

The Philadelphia 76ers are in search of answers, and fast. What looked like a promising NBA season on paper is quickly veering into dangerous territory, with chemistry issues, injuries, and inconsistent play all combining to put this team in a bind.Joel Embiid, 76ers, Sixers, NBA

Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey finally shared the floor for the first time Wednesday, but the moment was short-lived. George exited early with an injury to the same knee he hurt in the preseason — a troubling sign for a team already treading water.

Two wins. That’s all the Sixers have to show for their efforts so far, and both of those victories required overtime. Remove a couple of fortunate bounces, and we could be talking about a winless team.

That’s not where anyone expected this squad to be after acquiring George in the offseason, pairing him with Embiid and the electric Maxey. Yet here we are, barely out of November, and the Sixers have already held a team meeting — a hallmark of desperation in today’s NBA.

The issues run deeper than star availability. The supporting cast has struggled mightily, particularly with shooting and rebounding. Basically, it appears the team lacks the spark, the grit, and the resilience needed to navigate rough waters.

Adversity can define a season, but only if it’s met head-on with urgency. Right now, the Sixers look more like a group searching for excuses than solutions.

Can they get healthy and on the same page before the hole gets any deeper? Time will tell, but if they don’t figure it out soon, this season might be over before it truly begins. For a franchise with championship aspirations, that’s simply unacceptable.
