Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell, Lakers’ LeBron James Named Players Of Month

Two men with Northeast Ohio ties have earned NBA honors yet again. That would be none other than Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell and Lakers forward LeBron James, who have been named Eastern Conference and Western Conference Player of the Month, respectively.

Let’s just say the talk — and perhaps hopes — of a Cavs-Lakers NBA Finals is starting to make the rounds. And wouldn’t that be something?

Mitchell, who has emerged as a strong All-NBA candidate, averaged 25.8 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.2 rebounds in 10 games, shooting .487 from the field, .381 from three-point range, and .786 from the free-throw line in February. The Cavaliers finished the month with a 10-1 record, extending their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference.

This is the third Player of the Month award of Mitchell’s career, and his second since joining the Cavs. The 27-year-old has been a driving force for Cleveland‘s success this season, as it continues to challenge for a top seed in the entire NBA.

Meanwhile, this marks the 41st time in his illustrious 22-year career that James has earned the honor, though it is his first since 2020.

James led the Lakers to a 10-2 record in February, posting averages of 29.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 6.9 assists in 35.1 minutes per game. The 40-year-old also boasted an efficient shooting line of .555/.443/.738 over 11 games.

His standout play has been a key factor in Los Angeles’ strong push for playoff positioning as they continue to navigate the competitive West.

Among the other nominees for the award in the Western Conference were James’ teammate Austin Reaves, along with the Warriors’ Stephen Curry, Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Grizzlies’ Jaren Jackson Jr., Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, and Trail Blazers’ Anfernee Simons.
