Former NBA guard Delonte West was arrested again in Virginia, but the concern in this one goes beyond legal trouble.

TMZ reported that Fairfax County Police responded on Nov. 3 to a call about an unconscious male who was not breathing. Officers and EMS arrived and identified the man as West.

Police said he was breathing. They offered to take him to a hospital. West declined. Officers added that he appeared heavily intoxicated and arrested him for his own safety. He has since bonded out. It’s unclear if formal charges will follow.

West’s post-NBA life has been difficult. He was arrested by Fairfax County last year for trespassing. He was jailed again in June 2024 for allegedly violating release conditions and resisting arrest. And there have been other incidents along the way.

West played eight seasons in the league and was a starter in Cleveland during the Cavaliers’ contending years with LeBron James. His mental health struggles have been public. His setbacks have been public. And the hope has always been that he could find stability and support.

This latest incident is another reminder that his situation remains fragile.

No one who has been around the league wants more headlines like this.

All anyone can really hope for at this point is that West gets the help he needs — and not just another arrest record.
