Raptors, Brandon Ingram Agree To Three-Year Contract Extension

The Toronto Raptors and newly acquired forward Brandon Ingram have reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension worth $120 million, according to NBA insiders Shams Charania and Bobby Marks of ESPN.Brandon Imgram, Pelicans, NBA trade rumors

The deal, which includes a player option for the 2027-28 season, was confirmed by Ingram’s agents at Klutch Sports.

Ingram was traded to the Raptors from the New Orleans Pelicans last week in exchange for guard Bruce Brown, forward Kelly Olynyk, and two draft picks, including a first-round pick and a second-round pick.

The 27-year-old Ingram spent the previous five-and-a-half seasons with the Pelicans after being a key piece in the 2019 trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Over his 305-game tenure with New Orleans, Ingram averaged 23.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, along with a shooting line of .472 from the field, .372 from beyond the arc, and .847 from the free-throw line. He was named an All-Star in 2020.

Ingram and the Pelicans were unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension last offseason or during the first half of this season, which led to the trade.

The Raptors were clearly comfortable with the idea of investing in Ingram. General manager Bobby Webster indicated after the trade that the front office would not have made the move without “a comfort level with what he was looking for.”

While recently traded players face restrictions on contract extensions, Ingram’s new deal complies with those rules, including a 20% raise in the first year and subsequent 5% annual increases.

The extension, however, is well below the maximum amount Ingram could have received. If he had waited until free agency, he could have been eligible for a contract worth up to $150 million over three years.
