The Cavaliers are reportedly conducting a search of quality coaches. And yes, they are all quality. But there is very little buzz around the NBA.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are trying to make a massive splash with UConn’s Dan Hurley. No way should Hurley take that job. The Lakers are a fading team with an aging superstar. It’s a thankless gig.
I go in-depth on all of that and a whole lot more on the latest Hoops Wire Show on 330 to Go. You can catch it all below.
Now, there is nothing wrong with either search. You don’t need to make a splash if you’re the Cavs. Just find the right fit. We’ve seen that countless times in the NBA — and even with the Cavs.
Nothing wrong with the Lakers trying to lure Hurley, either. I just don’t know if an East Coast college guy with a fiery style will work over the course of an 82-game season, coaching a soon-to-be 40-year-old in LeBron James. Frankly, I can’t see James and Anthony Davis responding well to Hurley’s style.
Granted, I’ve been wrong before and will be again. But I feel confident in saying Hurley with the Lakers won’t work. Ultimately, I think he declines the offer.
As for the Cavs, man, they’re casting a wide net. Give them credit for that and for not worrying about “major” names. At least not yet. I still suspect they could throw a splashier name in the mix. I also think they’d be just fine hiring one of the candidates we keep hearing mentioned in the media.
