The Charlotte Hornets will be hiring a new main basketball man soon, and the same names keep popping up as potential candidates.
Per Marc Stein of The Stein Line, New Orleans Pelicans GM Trajan Langdon and Brooklyn Nets assistant GM Jeff Peterson are among the names to watch, along with Minnesota Timberwolves executive Matt Lloyd.
More names are certain to emerge, as the Hornets may not have such an easy time prying away some of the names above.
“The Nets are said to have strong interest in trying to keep Peterson as a top aide to Sean Marks … potentially with a new title, raise, etc.,” Stein wrote. “Langdon has been a candidate for lead decision-maker jobs previously. Lloyd was one of Tim Connelly‘s first hires when Connelly started assembling his front office in Minnesota.”
Langdon, 47 is perhaps the most intriguing name on the list, given that he’s a former first-round draft pick and is indeed mentioned for vacancies seemingly every season, as Stein noted.
He has worked under Pelicans head of basketball operations David Griffin since 2019. Before that, Langdon was an assistant GM with the Brooklyn Nets for three seasons and served as a scout for the San Antonio Spurs from 2102 to 2016.
Former Charlotte GM Mitch Kupchak was moved into an advisory role earlier this month to finish out his contract. He is not expected to remain with the team after the season.
